Editor Page
Dear lace friends,
As editor of our favorite magazine about lacemaking, it is my
pleasure to welcome you personally to our website and to our quarterly publication.
The beauty and success of our magazine are made
possible only by the contributions of all the lacemakers who make lace by hand, both in
the glorious past and the exciting future up ahead. Seeing the work of other lacemakers
under a magnifying glass can be a humbling experience yet, at the same time, it is a
personal encouragement for each of us who aspire to make better and more creative lace.
For some of us, it is a reason to start learning about lace from
the beginning. The only requirement to participate in this adventure is the will to try.
Patterns will be supplied. |

People often misunderstand the art of lace. They believe that it
requires unattainable degrees of patience. On the contrary, in the process of working with
our hands and eyes, we learn to be patient with ourselves. This wonderful virtue can be
passed on from grandmothers to grandchildren at an early age.
Lace makes us better human beings. It teaches us patience and understanding, of ourselves
and of others. The discipline of our artform is time-tested and refined over centuries,
yet open to personal interpretation and full of expressive freedom. It is a personal
journey of discovery and a lifelong learning process. We must pool and share our knowledge
as much as possible across generations and national borders.
For all the reasons above and many more, Lace Magazine international endeavors to
celebrate the inspiration that lace brings to us all in every issue. As editor, I
encourage you to participate in any way you can think of. I promise to give my personal
attention to all your requests and comments, suggestions, constructive criticism, ideas
and photos of your work. The tender beauty of lace is needed everywhere.
As incentive for the lacemakers who are members of LMi, I invite you to send photos of
your own original creations for publication on the web. Snapshots are fine. They will be
posted in the Art Gallery of www.lacemagazine.com
for a period of three months, so everyone can see them across the earth.
Please write me often about your lace dreams.
Love,
Lieve A. Jerger, Editor in
Chief
